Your Church Can Make a Difference

Lives are changed every day through Strength for Service. By increasing awareness and generating donations, your church could make an eternal difference in the lives of many military men and women and their families. The General Commission on United Methodist Men is committed to ensuring a copy of this powerful book is placed in the hands of every military man and woman serving overseas. Your church’s support can make this ambitious goal a reality.
Strength for Service is thrilled to offer everything you need to aid this important project. In this section, you will find all the told you need to take up an offering for the project, purchase books, make a donation or host a Strength for Service Sunday. You may have other ideas that will work in your church as well.
We believe you will be overwhelmed by the generous response from your congregation. Adam Samuels, minister of music at First United Methodist Church in Weatherford, Texas, was inspired to send books to one of the church’s ministerial colleagues deployed in Iraq. “I put a request for Strength for Service books in our church newsletter and bulletin. We received $1,125 to send 250 books to a chaplain in Iraq,” said Samuels. “If other churches are like ours, then this is the easiest ‘sales pitch’ in the history of good old United Methodist ‘special offerings.’”

How You Can Help
- Have a Strength for Service Sunday to tell your church about the impact the book is making in the lives of those in active service. Insert the bulletin stuffers in your bulletin and/or hang the provided posters up in your church (click here to go to the download center)
- Collect a special offering in honor of Strength for Service
- Purchase and give copies of Strength for Service to those in service and/or their spouse, in your congregation
- Make a donation to help send more books overseas

To help you host a Strength for Service Sunday, we have created posters for easy download to print and display in your church. On the posters is a box for you to fill in the dates and times you will be promoting the project. Posters are available in 11x17, 8.5x11 and 5.5x8.5 to meet the needs of your church.
Bulletin stuffers are also available – simply print, copy, cut and insert these small stuffers for your church bulletins.
