Boy Scouts raise funds for Strength for Service book

EUGENE, OREGON –– A Boy Scout Troop sponsored by Wesley UMC raised $100 to purchase Strength for Service to God and Country books for U.S. service men and women.

Troop 100, which has produced 86 Eagle Scouts during the troop’s 43-year history with the church, raised the money by a post-game cleaning of the parking lot for the University of Oregon football stadium.

In February, the troop dedicated a new 1,140 square-foot storage building built by the Scouts. The unit is divided into two parts –– one-third for church items and two—thirds for scouting equipment. In the process of building the shed, several Scouts earned merit badges in carpentry, landscaping, and painting.

Scouts have taken numerous trips for rafting, rock-climbing, and skiing on Mount Hood, and troop leaders recently offered training for a fly-fishing merit badge. The troop is planning a spring-break hike through the Avenue of the Giants at Humbolt Redwoods State Park and a July back-pack trip along bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean..

In February, a church-related Venture Crew made an overnight snowshoe trek out of Gold Lake Snow Park.
